Canada's Economic Action Plan funded project wraps up
Earlier this year Lakehead University’s Centre for
Analytical Services wrapped up a $391,820 1, ˝ year project funded under
Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Under this project new jobs were created which lead to the
development of a number of analytical services, including biomass fuel testing.
With the emerging bio-economy in Northwestern Ontario and increased interest in
renewable fuels, the introduction of biomass fuel testing at Lakehead provides
companies with a local analytical testing facility.
Other new testing services included developing mineralogical
and materials testing which adds to the regions capacity serve the Northern
Ontario Ring of Fire mineral exploration efforts. Furthermore outside the
region, two international chemical suppliers utilize Lakehead University’s and
materials testing services. These new services are staffed by highly-qualified people
who operate sophisticated instruments such as a scanning electron microscope
and an x-ray diffractometer.
